THE WATERMILL IS ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE THEATRES IN THE COUNTRY

THE WATERMILL WINS THREE AWARDS IN THE TMA AWARDS

Last night The Watermill won three awards at the TMA Awards, the most prestigious UK regional theatre awards.   Prizes went to:

SPEND SPEND SPEND! for Best Musical

Kirsty Hoiles for Best Supporting Performance in a  Musical (SPEND SPEND SPEND!)

Michael Pavelka for Best Set Design for THE MERCAHNT OF VENICE for Propeller

Artistic Director Hedda Beeby was at the awards ceremony:

"It was a brilliant night for The Watermill and everyone who works for it, the cast, creative team and crew who make the show and of course for our audiences who support this theatre with such loyalty.  The excitement of The Watermill contingent was palpable.  Craig Revel Horwood, who directed SPEND, SPEND SPEND! and Musical Director Sarah Travis accepted the award on behalf of the team.. Kirsty Hoiles was over the moon, with her Award for her brilliant interpretation of the young Viv Nicolson in the same show. And Michael Pavelka’s Award for his design of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE was well deserved and some may say well over due. These Awards are very important to us.  They’re great for the profile of The Watermill, for staff morale and help persuade the best creative talents in the business to work here. These awards also show sponsors, donors and supporters of all kinds that this theatre is thought of very highly at a national level and well worth investing in."

Derek Nicholls, President of the TMA said:
“This list of winners is a testament to the sheer talent and creativity at work in theatres across the country. From large scale commercial tours to pioneering children’s theatre, the TMA Theatre Awards celebrate the continued excellence which is at the heart of our industry.”

Nichola McAuliffe hosted the Awards Presentation at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith.

One other theatre, The Royal and Derngate, won three awards, two in association with other theatre companies.
