COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Artists in the Community
As part of our outreach work we take our shows to villages to provide access to professional theatre in rural areas. We provide those booking the shows with information, publicity materials and support. Before touring, the show will run for a week at The Watermill. The set and technical equipment is then loaded into a truck and transported to each venue. The same actors and technical team that mounted the show within The Watermill go with it as it travels the country ensuring that each community experiences a professional show of the quality which is expected from The Watermill.
To book a performance of one of The Watermill touring productions for your venue please contact Caro McKay on 01608 650984.
In July 2005 120 children from small rural primary schools performed in The Shed, a full-scale production, written for them and presented in the theatre, supported by the Ernest Cook Trust.
Roof, a forum theatre piece developed with support workers and clients of Reading Single Homeless Project, has toured schools in Reading to great acclaim, and, with the support of The Vodafone UK Foundation, toured to Newbury schools in Autumn 2005 and during the Spring and Autumn of 2006.
Our New Writers Group is a forum for writers in which they can discuss, share and develop their work, with the aim of nurturing and encouraging the best of new writing for theatre.
Enquiries about new writing groups should be addressed to Ade Morris on 01635 570918, or email outreach@watermill.org.uk
