• Radio Times, our summer musical with Gary Wilmot and Anna-Jane Casey, was a huge hit, and both Relatively Speaking at the beginning of the year and The Wind In The Willows played to packed houses.
• Richard Briers, Robert Hardy, Jon Snow, Alan Titchmarsh, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire and Sir Patrick Stewart all gave their time to help us raise vital funds for the theatre.
• In collaboration with the Oxfordshire Theatre Company, we took a piece of new writing, Some Like It Hotter, on a hugely successful tour to 50 village halls, arts centres and small theatres, with part two of the tour starting next month. This will be followed by Love On The Tracks, our second touring show during the spring. Look out for our special schools’ production of Othello which will tour in the autumn.
• As part of our ongoing commitment to nurture new talent, we welcomed Clive Judd, Trainee Director, through the regional Theatre Young Director Scheme. We will also be joined by a young designer, based with us for three months as part of the Linbury Prize for Stage Design.
2011 was certainly an eventful year. In spite of the economic gloom, we have enjoyed many sell-out shows and have expanded the activities we offer, encouraging even more people to get involved in life at the theatre. We’ve had a really positive response to our new season. Thank you so much for your support – we need it now more than ever. See you soon. |

Barrel loads of laughter, cheeky versions of great musical numbers, sensational singers and a large dose of music hall and variety nostalgia. Celebrating 25 Years of Miss Helen Watson’s Seasonal Sauce. If Radio Times tickled your fancy then try a special helping of our very own variety show. If you loved the gags, songs and send-ups, this is for you – naughty but nice!
For every performance there will be a lucky seat in the theatre. If it’s yours, you will receive a prize which could be anything from a voucher for a couple of glasses of wine, two main courses in our pre-show buffet, a cream tea for two, or £20 worth of Watermill gift vouchers.

Thursday 16 February – Saturday 24 March
“One of the sharpest, wittiest, most passionate and elegant plays of the year” The Sunday Express (past production)
A comedy at The Watermill is just the thing to look forward to in the upcoming winter months. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our fabulous cast for Lettice & Lovage. This warm and funny play will be performed by Selina Cadell and Jessica Turner (both left) alongside Helen Mallon and Michael Thomas. You may recognise Selina, who appears as Mrs Tishell, the infatuated pharmacist in an unexplained neckbrace in the popular TV series Doc Martin.
Fed up with delivering dull and dreary tours of the least interesting stately home in England, Lettice Douffet decides to give her own take on a minor incident in the property’s history by turning it into an epic romantic saga. When straight-laced bureaucrat Lotte Schoen finds out, she is not amused and fires her.
However six months later, over a particularly potent Elizabethan cordial, the two women discover they have a fair amount in common and form a touching alliance. But a re-enactment of the beheading of Charles I puts their friendship to the test!
Tickets £14.50 - £26 MORE INFORMATION |

We are pleased to announce that The Watermill Theatre is one of the first theatres in the country to convert to using rechargeable batteries for our radio mic systems. As part of the Better Batteries campaign run by Julie’s Bicycle, and thanks to our sound team putting the systems in place, we are running our current production of The Wind in the Willows on rechargeable batteries, as well as continuing to provide a collection point in the area for recycling batteries.
This means a significant cost saving on our future musicals and a greener environment too – hurrah!

Our An Audience With ... Sir Patrick Stewart event was a great success last month and we are very grateful to Sir Patrick for generously giving his time, Jackson-Stops and Staff for sponsoring the event, and everyone who came along to listen to the story of a West Yorkshire school boy turned international film star.
Sir Patrick told stories of his role as Captain of the Enterprise in Star Trek, tales of acting with Vivien Leigh, and his renowned theatrical performances in Shakespeare classics.
This memorable event raised over £8000 for the theatre, which will go towards The Watermill Production Fund, supporting the work on stage, contributing towards the costs of sets, costumes, lighting and sound equipment. MORE INFORMATION |

Once The Wind in the Willows draws to a close this Saturday, the theatre will go ‘dark’ for a few weeks for essential maintenance work and improvements to the buildings. This will include refurbishment of the theatre's seating, kitchen improvements, giving the box office a facelift and re-varnishing of the foyer floor. Alongside this, essential PAT testing will take place on all lighting equipment and a soak away will be installed in the main car park to improve drainage on site.
If you need to visit the theatre for tickets, please follow the signs to our temporary box office. We apologise for any inconvenience.
