TWO TRUSTS INCREASE THEIR ORIGINAL GRANTS TO HELP SAVE THE WATERMILL

Press Release - 4 April 2007

The Save The Watermill appeal has received generous top-up grants from The Headley Trust and the Greenham Common Trust, based in Newbury.  Both trusts pledged substantial grants to the appeal when it was launched in 2005 and have recently pledged further gifts to help the theatre reach its target of £3 million and undertake the urgent building work.  This takes the appeal to £2,380,000.

The Headley Trust’s original grant was £50,000 which has been increased by £25,000 and Greenham Common Trust’s original grant was £520,000 which has now been increased by £52,000.

Both Trusts decided to top-up their original awards following the stupendous support that The Save The Watermill has received from its audience members, enabling the purchase of the venue.

David Bailey of Greenham Common Trust said:
"Initially we were happy to give the appeal £520,000 to start the ball rolling but we have been so impressed with the amount of money donated by the public we decided that we should pledge further support in recognition of this support."

Susan Foster, Development Director responded:
"We are delighted that these Trusts have increased their grants. As we enter the final stages of the appeal, we hope that other trusts and members of our audience will follow suit and top up their gifts to help us to raise the last slice of £620,000 to complete the appeal and enable us to undertake the essential building work."
