THE WATERMILL RIDES HIGH ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC
Press Release - 29 May 2007
At home The Watermill has received a superb endorsement of the success of its fundraising efforts, particularly for the Save The Watermill appeal. With help from all its supporters, sponsors, trusts and foundations it won Gold for the Fundraising Campaign of the Year award and Bronze for Fundraising Charity of the Year award in the Professional Fundraising Awards held last week in London.
The theatre was up against some major international charities, which included the NSPCC, British Red Cross, Barnardo’s and the Salvation Army, all of whom were short-listed.
Susan Foster, Development Director of The Watermill and Andrew Tuckey of The Appeal Board accepted the Awards on behalf of everyone who contributed to the theatre’s success. Following the event Andrew said:
"The award event was an extraordinary evening for The Watermill. There, in front of representatives from all the biggest multi-million pound charities in the UK, the tiny Watermill Theatre and its tireless supporters were honoured with these two awards - an amazing achievement. Having been intimately involved with the The Watermill's fundraising for nearly two years I, and my colleagues on the Appeal Board, have been overwhelmed by the support that this company generates. Long may it last."
The success of the appeal and the ongoing support for the theatre is very much down to team work. With the commitment of so many people The Watermill is truly a thriving theatre it is. The Watermill directors and staff salute everyone who has this possible and offer an enormous THANK YOU!
On the other side of the pond Propeller, who are currently on the final leg of their world tour before returning to The Watermill 6 – 30 June, have picked up some awards and nominations for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW and TWELFTH NIGHT. The OBIE Awards recognising excellence in off-Broadway theatre gave Edward Hall and Propeller a special OBIE citation for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. In addition they have been nominated for Outstanding Revival of a Play for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW and Propeller has been nominated for Outstanding Music for a Play for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW by the Drama Desk Awards.
