The building work begins...
With the start of a new year comes the beginning of a new era for The Watermill. The foundations for the future are being laid, literally, as building work begins on the new office accommodation and the lily pond area.
Audiences will be able to enjoy the extended facilities later in the year by which time the lily pond will be refurbished giving it a glass roof, and level access into the bar and restaurant areas. The new space, when not being used by theatre audiences, will be a space for workshops and meetings.
The Save The Watermill appeal has £200,000 of the £3 million still to raise but generous donations from Greenham Common Trust and the Sheepdrove Trust has enabled the building works to start.
The Greenham Common Trust has recently topped up their initial donation. Director David Bailey said:
"Initially we were happy to give the appeal £520,000 to start the ball rolling but we have been so impressed with the amount of money donated by the public, we decided that we should pledge further support in recognition of this."
The Sheepdrove Trust, based at an organic farm in Lambourn, have also generously donated to the Save The Watermill appeal.
