BOOK CLUB - PROFESSOR ROBERT DOUGLAS-FAIRHURST

Tue 01 Dec 2015

The Story of Alice - Lewis Carroll and the Secret History of Wonderland

Wonderland is part of our cultural heritage - a shortcut for all that is beautiful and confusing; a metaphor used by artists, writers and politicians for 150 years.
But beneath the fairy tale lies the complex history of the author and his subject: Charles Dodgson, the quiet academic, and his second self, Lewis Carroll - storyteller and innovator. And of his ‘dream-child’, Alice Liddell, and the fictional alter ego that would never let her grow up.

Drawing on previously unpublished material, Professor Robert Douglas-Fairhurst traces the creation and influence of the Alice books against a shifting cultural landscape.

Books will be on sale at the theatre and there will be a book signing after the event.

The restaurant will be open before the event. Please make a reservation when booking your tickets.

Our Book Club events are a great opportunity to indulge your love of books. There’s no joining fee and no need to read the books in advance.
