Two spectacular plays, one summer celebration.
This summer, we celebrate our 50th anniversary year by staging two masterful plays by one of the nation’s greatest living writers. |
House and Garden will be performed simultaneously in The Watermill’s atmospheric theatre and outside in the serenity of our beautiful gardens. With hilarious consequences, one character’s entrance to House in the theatre is another’s exit outside from Garden in this fast-paced duo of plays!
House and Garden’s storyline can be enjoyed through the eyes of different characters in either the theatre or the garden. Both are complete plays with an interval. You may watch either House or Garden or choose to attend both on separate occasions. It does not matter in which order the plays are watched. |

Make the most of our gardens with this special outdoors experience
Enjoy the long summer evenings outside with Garden, an exuberant, action-packed comedy that follows the fevered preparations for the annual village fete. Lindy and Barry lead the colourful set-up, occasionally interrupted by mysterious noises from nearby hedges. Amidst the manicured setting, gossip, affairs and petty feuds run rife. As a host of vibrant characters and troubled couples mingle throughout the day, emotions begin to unravel before sunset.
Every inch of The Watermill’s beautiful space is being used for this extraordinary outdoor experience. Click here to buy tickets for Garden and soak up the celebratory summer fete atmosphere in our covered seating areas. |
Thursday 22 June performances of House and Garden are sponsored by Horsey Lightly.
Please note, performances of House and Garden will be at 2pm and 7pm. |
Newbury Dramatic Society presents |
by Terry Pratchett Wednesday 17 May to Sat 20 May Tickets £12.50 and £12 |
For one week only, The Watermill welcomes Newbury Dramatic Society for their vibrant adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Maskerade.
In the Ankh Morpork Opera House, a strangely familiar evil mastermind in a mask and evening dress is lurking in the shadows. He lures innocent young sopranos to their destiny, commits occasional murder, and sends little notes full of maniacal laughter and exclamation marks. Opera can do that to a man. But Granny Weatherwax, the Discworld’s most famous witch, is in the audience and she doesn’t hold with that sort of thing... and the show must go on! |

This summer, The Watermill will stage the first ever actor-musician production of A Little Night Music. Filled with beautiful iconic numbers including Send in the Clowns and A Weekend in the Country, this award-winning romantic musical is a passionate story of intertwined love affairs, regret and longing centred on elegant actress Desirée Armfeldt, and her family and flirtations. Following the outstanding success of past productions, including the Tony award-winning Sweeney Todd which transferred to the West End and Broadway, The Watermill returns to Sondheim with director Paul Foster (Tell Me On A Sunday and Laurel and Hardy) and award-winning musical supervisor Sarah Travis (Sweeney Todd, Mack and Mabel and Pinafore Swing). |
