OUTREACH NEWS: MAY 2010

In May the Outreach Team seriously starts to get out and about! The touring production of Gulliver’s Travels, directed by Outreach Director Ade Morris, is touring village halls, arts centres and regional theatres from 3 May to 12 June. This striking adaptation of Gulliver’s extraordinary journey is true to the spirit of Jonathan Swift’s original stunning, fantastical adult satire. It not only leaps 300 years of progress like a tiny Lilliputian sea, it strikes a deep chord of human truth, laughter and empathy over the centuries.

In the meantime 50 young people from our Associate Youth Theatre are performing open air at The Watermill in their own take on Ovid’s Metamorphosis. They’ve been busy rehearsing for the last ten weeks, devising their own short plays. Now let your imagination run riot as our brilliant young actors take an unwitting audience around gardens filled with romantic lovers, nymphs, soldiers and goddesses. The performances are on Sunday May 16th and tickets can be booked from the Box Office.

We’re also working with all sorts of brilliant local schools and organisations such as (deep breath) .... developing business skills at Vodafone with The Education & Business Partnership, a workshop on The Caretaker at St Bartholomew’s School, a film project with Park House, work experience and talks with Downe House, stage fighting workshops at Cheam School, and Othello at Devizes School. Not to mention our play-writing evening workshop, play readings for adults, and taking bookings for our summer holiday courses. As always, we’re enjoying meeting more and more of you.
