Scribbles from the Margins
Share a Script
Calling budding script-writers! Anytime from now until July we're inviting you to dig out a script you've been working on, or set pen to paper for the first time.
Our Community Associate, Lixi Chivas, is collecting scripts for a showcase of "Scribbles from the Margins". If you have an unheard story you'd like to share with the wider world, read on…
Any scripts submitted to Lixi by 31 July 2018 may be included in the showcase line-up, subject to space and other considerations, to be rehearsed and shared in August. If you also enjoy performing, you might like to get involved with this side of the project, too!
As our showcase will be performed by adults and children, Scribbles scripts should be family friendly, with no strong language or adult themes. The script you send us should be no more than 10 sides of A4. It could be a short self-contained scene, or a section from a longer story.
There is no right or wrong way to create a script but if you would like some constructive feedback and guidance, email or post your work-in-progress to Lixi whenever you are ready. Lixi will work with you, one-to-one, to help develop your script.
Rehearsal Holiday Week
This summer marks the end of the first three years of funding that The Watermill received from Greenham Trust to establish a new programme of specialist and accessible groups and performances. To celebrate everything we've achieved over these last three years we want to host a holiday week with a difference, bringing together participants of all ages and abilities to work on this collection of scripts submitted by unheard voices. This is also an opportunity for families and friends of regular participants to join in.
Over the week from Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August, 1pm to 4pm, we will rehearse towards a showcase to share with friends, family and invited guests. The showcase will be performed on Friday 10 August, exactly 3 years to the day since the programme began!
We appreciate that it may be harder for adults to be available every afternoon all week. If this is the case please just tell us and we can talk about how you can still be involved.
Supporting Additional Needs
Depending on the needs of those who want to take part, this week can be autism-friendly, dementia-friendly, and/or Deaf-friendly, supported by British Sign Language, Makaton, and/or Widgit Symbols. If there is anything else we can do to support your participation, please get in touch.
Please note that we will be working as a group and are not able to guarantee one-to-one support for participants. If this would be important to you, you are welcome to bring someone to support you; just let us know.
This holiday week is £95 per person. If more than one person in a family would like to take part we can offer discounted places, and if money is a barrier we have fully-funded bursary places available thanks to the generous support of Greenham Trust.
If you would struggle to get to The Watermill, please ask us about support with travel.

For many of us, trying something new, with new people, in a new place, can be daunting. Our familiarisation visits are a chance to meet Lixi, the group facilitator, and have a short tour of the theatre and facilities with her. If you would like to book a visit, please contact Lixi on 01635 570918 or email email@example.com
