About Comedy at the Watermill
With Angela Barnes, Matt Richardson, Peter Rethinasamy and hosted by Ash Frith!
Headlining the show is Angela Barnes!
Angela swapped a career in health and social care for stand up in 2010 and hasn’t looked back. Within just a couple of years, she had won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2011 and has since toured the UK and starred in BBC Two’s iconic 21 series Mock the Week as a regular, as well as Live at the Apollo, and Hypothetical on Dave.
She is a firm favourite on BBC Radio 4, having featured on The Now Show and The News Quiz – including a recent stint as the host, she also hosted BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Newsjack. Angela co-hosted the less-than-serious popular podcast We Are History, which has just teamed up with Podmasters, with John O’Farrell. Six series strong and with over a million downloads, the two history nerds discuss, explain, and laugh at interesting and quirky episodes from the olden days.
Opening the show is Matt Richardson! Matt is a multi-award winning stand-up comedian and one of the most exciting names on the circuit, currently rising through the ranks. Having started stand-up in 2009 at 18 years old, Matt became one of the youngest comedians on the circuit and soon made it through to the finals of two national stand-up competitions – the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny and the Chortle Student Comedy Award – as well as coming runner up in the Reading Comedy Festival New Act of the Year and winning the Newbury and Bath Comedy Festival new act competitions ‘ – all while still in his teens. He quickly established himself in all of the major comedy club chains in the UK and has gigged overseas on countless occasions.
Since then, Matt has firmly established himself as one of the UK’s most exciting young performers and presenters – hosting the drive-time show on Virgin Radio. His TV credits include co-hosting the Xtra Factor alongside Caroline Flack, Co-Hosting Celebrity Haunted Hotel Live! Alongside Christine Lampard and helming the live spin off show alone, two one-off documentaries for ITV2 – Pampered Pooches, Hollywood and Meet The Family Guys, a series regular role on Viral Tap (ITV2), Nevermind The Buzzcocks, Celebrity Juice, Sweat The Small Stuff, Big Brothers Bit on the Side, Fake Reaction, Its Not Me It’s You, I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of here Now! and countless other shows.
Plus the brilliant Peter Rethinasamy! Born and raised in Belfast to a Malaysian father and Irish mother, Peter is a comedian with hard-hitting, punchy jokes and hilarious tales of growing up in Northern Ireland.
Since he started performing stand up, he has reached the semi-finals of the Laughing Horse New Act Competition and won the London Comedy Store’s King Gong Competition. Recently, Peter has been supporting Judi Love, Seann Walsh, Kerry Godliman, Russell Kane and Tom Allen on tour around the UK.
Combining his love of comedy writing and acting (he was a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain), Peter has been on Comedy Central Live! And last year, he appeared in The Heist Before Christmas, alongside Timothy Spall, which was a movie made for Sky, directed by Edward Hall. Other recent credits include Ted Lasso (Apple TV), Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC), short film Us & In Between, and Peter is soon to be seen in Changing Ends (ITV).
Hosted by Ash Frith!
