About Christmas Comedy at the Watermill with Maisie Adam
A very special festive night of comedy with headliner Maisie Adam!
Plus Alexandra Haddow, Michael Akadiri and hosted by Luke Honnoraty!
Headlined by Yorkshire-born comedian Maisie Adam! Her comedy career kicked off in 2017, when she entered the nationwide So You Think You're Funny? competition (which has previously been won by many of her comedy heroes, including Peter Kay, Aisling Bea, and Tom Allen).
Before she knew it, she found herself with a place in the Grand Final, held at the Gilded Balloon up at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on 24th August she won the competition, becoming only the 4th woman to have done so in its' 30-year history. The following year, Maisie was nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards for her debut show ‘Vague’, where she also won the Amused Moose National Comic Award.
Maisie's anecdotal material and witty charm have quickly won her praise up and down the country and she has since appeared on Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You, QI, Roast Battle, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Hypothetical and The Stand-Up Sketch Show. She also hosts the podcast 'That's A First' alongside fellow comedian Tom Lucy.
Opening the show is Alexandra Haddow! Alex has become one of our most popular MCs, brilliant at crowd work and making the whole audience feel immediately at home and like one of her best friends. She always has us in the palm of her hand. But her material is so on point you’d be a bloody fool to ignore her straight stand-up. She expertly walks the fine line between cheeky and outright smut, with great stories that bring you in before catching you with the sting in the tail. She’s just got genuinely funny bones – able to craft a laugh out of every situation.
When she’s not hosting or playing shows, Alex is also one of the hosts of The School for Dumb Women, which answers essential questions like, “Should I be Norwegian?” or “Are Beavers cancelled?”, and most importantly, “What is Gwyneth Paltrow?”
She’s also a freelance Journalist, and wrote a cracking article about why comedy needed saving during the pandemic, and you can read it on her Instagram. In short, Alex is a fantastic comic who’s bound to become a major force on the comedy scene. Make sure you take every chance to see her as much as you can now, because it won’t belong before she’s catapulted to the stratosphere.
Plus Michael Akadiri! Michael’s natural charm and cheeky, observational style has already seen him make an impact on the UK comedy scene. He’s the inaugural winner of the Komedia New Comedy Award and starred in the London finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2021 (BBC Three).
As well as performing comedy, Michael works as a junior doctor in the NHS and is currently on a sabbatical from his surgical training. His medical background means he’s also in demand as a health commentator, appearing both on TV (BBC Two’s Newsnight) & Radio (Times Radio).
Hosted by the hilarious Luke Honnaraty!
