About Christmas Comedy at the Watermill with Shappi Khorsandi

With Shappi Khorsandi, Andrew Bird, Nathan Caton and hosted by Kate Lucas!

SHAPPI KHORSANDI

Headlining the show is Shappi Khorsandi! Shaparak “Shappi” Khorsandi is a celebrated British-Iranian comedian known for her fearless, funny takes on identity, family, and modern life. Shappi established herself as one of the UK’s finest comedians with her sell-out Edinburgh show, Asylum Speaker. Despite the basis for the show being her experiences as a child refugee fleeing Iran and terrorists attempting to murder her father, Shappi’s sensitive yet witty exploration of these events created an instant comedy smash hit. It also led to the publication of her childhood memoirs, “A Beginner’s Guide To Acting English“, her best-selling literary debut, described by the Scotsman as  ‘filled with laughter, wonder and compassion’. Emma Thompson said “This very funny, acute book also made me cry”.

She’s lit up screens on Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, QI, Have I Got News For You, and even braved the jungle on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!. A regular on BBC Radio 4’s Just a Minute and countless panel shows, Shappi’s sharp wit and warm storytelling have made her a household name.

ANDREW BIRD

Opening the show is the brilliant Andrew Bird! Andrew has appeared on The Russell Howard Hour and supported Russell on tour including Bristol's Ashton Gate Football stadium and six shows at The London Palladium. He’s also supported Rhod Gilbert, Rob Brydon, America’s Brian Regan and Michelle Wolfe on their only London shows and Michael McIntyre on an entire arena tour including Wembley and the O2. He’s written for TV shows Jon Richardson’s Ultimate Worrier, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Mock The Week and Andrew is one of only seven comedians to perform for Banksy at Dismal Land!

NATHAN CATON

Plus award-winning comedian, actor, writer, podcaster and presenter Nathan Caton! Nathan has been active on the UK comedy circuit since the tender age of 19. He excels in combining both personal, confessional material with up-to-date social and political anecdotes. This has won him numerous credits and plaudits over the years and has made him one of the hottest stars and established headliners on the circuit. He started comedy while studying architecture at University and within his first full year of gigging he had built up a solid reputation having performed at the Edinburgh Festival, finishing as a runner-up in the Amused Moose Comedy Search and winning the award for Chortle Student Comic of the Year. Since his beginnings Nathan has both featured in and written for various television & radio shows, done five solo Edinburgh shows and taken his comedy talents internationally, performing in places such as Dubai, New York, Mumbai and Montreal. He has also embarked on numerous UK tours, the latest being his show Let’s Talk About Vex which was filmed for a comedy special on YouTube. It’s fair to say that Nathan has established himself as a circuit headliner and a future star in the comedy world.

As seen on Celebrity Mastermind, House of Games, Guessable, Live at The Apollo, Mock The Week, Pointless Celebrities & The Premier League Show.

KATE LUCAS

Hosted by award-winning musical comedian Kate Lucas! Known for her razor sharp and deliciously dark songs, she combines catchy melodies with original lyrics to showcase her playfully bitter musings on life. Audiences have come to expect examples of what not to say and how not to behave from this gloriously talented young comic. In 2014 she took home the title for the prestigious Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year and her performances since have been met with huge critical acclaim.

Lucas has since gone on to build a seriously impressive reputation on the circuit, storming it every weekend to packed out crowds at the country’s most famous comedy venues. In 2016 her debut show Whatever Happened to Kate Lucas? was met with huge critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With this kind of phenomenal track record, this very special rising star is most definitely one to watch.
