About Scene Change
Monthly drama workshops for adults who - for whatever reason - could use a change of scene.
You can leave your everyday at the door to express yourself, stretch your imagination, and relax with fellow Scene Changers. As we listen, laugh, and learn, your skills and confidence will build within a supportive and encouraging group.
Being a stand-alone session, there is no obligation to come every time, but for those who attend regularly, topics will vary month to month.
We encourage partner professionals to attend sessions with the person they are supporting, where this is possible.
This is what one Scene Changer says:
'I really look forward to the hour and a half that I can just switch off from the outside world, and concentrate on using the fun part of my mind, instead of constantly wearing my serious head!"
Sessions currently take place on the first Thursday of every month. The space will be open for tea, coffee and cake from 1pm, and until 2.30pm.
Please note that Scene Change is a creative arts programme and does not offer dramatherapy. If you have significant needs we are happy to signpost you towards more appropriate services.
General FAQs
What happens in a Scene Change session?
Each session is a standalone, bespoke session, but they follow a similar schedule each month.
We check in with everyone in the group over tea, coffee and a sweet treat and share news.
We warm up with some drama skills-based activities.
We then have a main activity.
And then we wrap up and conclude.
What do I need to bring?
Please wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and will keep you covered during physical activity. If you have any medication you may need to take, please bring it in a clearly labelled bag and ensure a member of the team is aware (by contacting the team prior to the session).
Do I need to have any previous experience?
No, our sessions are bespoke to the group we are working with, and we offer a very supportive environment. Our session focuses on providing a safe space away from the everyday to have fun exploring our creative side, build self confidence and socialise.
Can you support my access need?
We want all of our activities to be as open, comfortable and inclusive as possible, so we’re always happy to chat about specific access needs to make your or their experience as smooth as possible.
Where will the course take place?
Most of our sessions take place on-site at the Watermill Theatre. We are usually in our studio. Our studio is the white door, to the far right of the car park. There are signs pointing towards it around the car park. Some sessions and courses may take place elsewhere, but this will be specified in the monthly reminder email.
