Leaving a gift means that your passion for theatre will live on.

Any donation, no matter how small, helps the Watermill to thrive for generations to come. A legacy supports our beautiful building, as well as our community outreach work, helping to inspire audiences of the future to experience wellbeing through the arts and ensure that as many people as possible continue to enjoy the magic of live theatre.

Why leave a legacy to the Watermill?

  1. Create lasting artistic impact -gifts help commission new plays, support long-term programming, and give our artistic team the freedom to be bold and ambitious.

  2. Grow community and education work - legacies can help to fund youth theatre, school workshops, and outreach that means those most in need can benefit from participation in the arts.

  3. Sustain our home in Newbury - your support helps maintain and improve the theatre building and facilities, so audiences and artists have a welcoming place to gather.

We respect that legacy decisions are deeply personal. As members of the Fundraising Regulator, we follow best practice in legacy fundraising, never pressure supporters, and always encourage independent legal and financial advice.

If you are considering leaving a legacy, you can get in touch with our team for a zero-pressure chat to find out more about legacy giving at the Watermill.

FAQs

Will a legacy affect my family?

Many people choose gifts that balance family provision with charitable giving. Your solicitor can help you plan.

Can I restrict how my gift is used?

Yes, however if you’d like your gift to be used for a specific purpose we encourage you to discuss this with us first so we can ensure your gift is used effectively. An unrestricted gift often has the most impact, as we can choose to direct the funds where we need it most at the time.

What if I change my mind?

You can amend your Will at any time with a codicil or new Will.

Do I have to let you know I plan to leave a gift?

No - however, if you do choose to let us know, we can keep you up to date with our plans for the future.
