About Interval (ages 12-17)
A weekly drama group for young people who have complications in their lives to take time out, to connect, and to play.
An opportunity for young people to take some time each week to use imagination, relax and play drama games. Each session will be playful, creative, and different, using all the fun of drama with none of the pressure.
Young people who take part in our regular sessions will also be invited to apply for our Youth Ensemble production in the spring
Support
For many of us, trying something new with new people can be daunting, so we like to offer an opportunity for you to meet Angharad or our session leaders in advance and ask any questions you may have.
All about Youth Theatre
What happens in a Youth Theatre session?
Each session is bespoke, but they follow a similar schedule each week.
We check in with everyone in the group and share news from our week.
We warm up and play drama skills-based games.
We then have a main activity (related to the overall theme of the term).
And then we wrap up and conclude.
What do I need to bring?
Please wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and will keep you covered during physical activity. Bring water in a clearly labelled or colourful bottle. If you have any medication you may need to take, please bring it in a clearly labelled bag and ensure a member of the team is aware (by including this in our Participant Information Form that you will be sent after booking. You can also contact the team before the session at outreach@watermill.org.uk)
Do I need to have any previous experience?
No, our sessions are bespoke to the group we are working with, and we offer a very supportive environment. Our Youth Theatre focuses on individual development, nurturing our young people to take their next step - whether that's a tip-toe or a giant leap.
Can you support my access need?
We want all of our activities to be as open, comfortable and inclusive as possible, so we’re always happy to chat about specific access needs to make your or their experience as smooth as possible (For example, arranging a BSL interpreter, ear defenders, or movement breaks). You are welcome to try any activity you like!
We also run some specialist activities with support built in. Find out more here.
Do you offer taster sessions?
We run specific taster session events throughout the year. Keep an eye on our What's On page or emails for updates.
We're also happy to welcome potential participants to the first session of the term as a free taster session. These are subject to availability. Please get in touch with our outreach team to arrange.
